Nathan Robertson (who will be inducted next week) with John Grocki
Sec.'y Kathy Calvin related "how much fun it was" attending the New England District Convention last weekend. We received an award for sponsoring two students in the HOBY program (the biggest deal was our Secretary having her picture taken with Hugh O'Brien himself) and for the bulletin. Thanx to Charlie St. Clair for donating a sweatshirt for the silent auction. Ed Murphy became Governor-Elect. Also in attendance were Pres. Don Nelson and Immediate Past Lt. Gov. Chet Cilley.
Warren Mitchell reported on the Berlin trip last week. A little rain fell on the way up but it was a beautiful night. Berlin club, jokesters that they are, put oil spills around all the Laconia bikes. We got them back good, however, when Al Dolloff beat the odds and pulled the ace of hearts and won the 50/50 jackpot for nice little sum of $340. The pot had been building for many months with Berlin money!
Gilford Old Home Day
V.P. Larry Murphy reported that we brought in about $300 and got to show off our newly-designed trailer. Dennis Denoncourt made some mean burgers and many others were in attendance to assist.

Shotgun start at 12:30p with bag lunch. Buffet dinner, awards and prizes with cash bar at 5:30p. The Outing should be over by 6:30p. Our
regular meeting, with Pres.-Elect Phil Bonafide newly presiding, will begin immediately after the outing. Price will be $400 per foursome. Flyers detailing the day and available sponsorships should be arriving via email shortly. Radio and print advertising and snail mailings will also begin this week.
Jim reports that Laconia High School's first home football game is this Friday. Anyone available to help with the food shack should show up at 6p.
Chair Jim Fortier reports that Steve O'Riordan has taken over as the new Key Club Advisor. Steve is the vocational school director and a Rotarian. (Oh
well, nobody's perfect!)
Dr. Don Carey, $26

Charlie for surviving his trip out West.
Dr. Don Carey gave a very interesting slide show presentation on his October 1997 trip to Africa. He toured Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Mali by bike with his wife Barbara and others. For information on biking throughout the world, check out ibike.org. Did you know that coffee originated in Ethiopia?
Our installation dinner on Monday, September 24, at Pheasant Ridge Country Club will begin with cocktails at 6:00p. A buffet dinner follows at 6:45p. Cost is $22 per person. It will be a guest night with incoming Lt. Gov. Ken Georgevits. Please let V.P. Phil Bonafide know how many guests you've invited.
