News From The President:
President Scott announced that club dues notifications are out and payment is due to Kathy by September 1st. Please bring your checks to our next meeting.

Scott also announced a Wednesday evening car show to be held at CJ Avery’s in Lakeport for the next two months to raise funds for the Santa Fund. For details, “click” here.

Roger's Ride Update:
Betty Ballantyne briefed the prep work being done for Roger’s Ride. To-date ticket sales have brought in $750. The retail vendors are getting little response so half their ticket stock was picked up and will be re-distributed to members to sell. Betty also appealed to the entire membership to support this ride. It will be, by far, our largest fund-raiser, and we all need to participate.

Members are asked to show up for set-up and other important work at 8 AM Sunday, August 25th. We will be done by 2 PM at the latest. Dick Breton, who has done the ride several times, reported the ride is just over 70 miles and should take 2.5 – 3 hours to complete.

Betty then showed off the T-shirts for the ride and several were purchased at the meeting for $10 each.

These T-Shirts are available for just $10.00.

$1 from Pam Noble who was happy to be our guest
$1 from Jack Batchelder to mark the countdown until leaving with Samantha for the beginning of her college career in MO
$2 from Betty Ballantyne for all the good work being done in preparation for Roger’s Ride
$1 from Phil Bonafide for being not happy, but mildly disappointed.

Fines:
$1 fine levied by President Scott for Phil’s announced intention to leave the meeting early, which, despite the financial penalty and serious re-consideration, Phil decided to do anyway

Guest Speaker:
President Scott introduced our guest speaker, Pam Noble. In addition to being a Vice President and Loan Officer with Meredith Village Savings Bank, Pam is a volunteer with the American Cancer Society Lakes Region Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Committee.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the signature event annually by the American Cancer Society. Since 1946, the first year of the walk, $3.8 billion dollars has been donated to cancer research, $123 million in 2012 alone. Laconia is a major participant. 1995 was the first year it was held in Laconia, $50,400 was raised. 2008 was the best year with 1200 walkers/runners and $211,000 raised, the highest per capita fund in the entire country. In 2012 there were 700 participants raising $120,000. Breast cancer strikes 1 out of every 8 women.

Pam asked the Club to consider fielding a team, as a Club, or in any other social or professional group we belong to. The minimum required by any team is $75 per team member. This year’s event is Sunday, October 20, starting at 10 AM. The event will begin and end at Opechee Park in Laconia.
