Guest Speakers
This writer introduced Exec. Dir. Dianne M. Zawacki, Asst. Exec. Dir. Denise "Mom" Davis, and Youth Board Pres. Whitney Dupont, Laconia Teen Center, to the club. Dianne Zawacki advises that the Teen Center (Community Center Building) serves 35-40 teens, aged 11-18, each day except Mondays. Activities include dances, parties, pool, assorted games, cooking, homework, computer craft, sewing, holiday caroling, and crafts. Pres. Whitney Dupont will be representing the Teen Center at the upcoming Stand Up and Shout event honoring area volunteerism. She reports that they will be setting up a coffee house for the High School. Students also provide mentoring services and act as positive role models. The Center is struggling a bit financially, advises Denise Davis. They rely on grant-writing, donations, and fundraisers such as their Adopt-a-Tile program. In addition to a constant need for volunteers to help with the various activities, they need some new kitchen appliances, donated foods, and sports equipment. The Teen Center is open 2p-6p, Tuesday-Friday and 5p-9p on Saturdays. The Sharing O' the Green open house scheduled for Wednesday, March 17, 5p-7p, The Teen Center, 306 Union Ave., has been postponed to the following Wednesday. For more information you may contact Exec. Dir. Dianne Zawacki at
