Happy Happy
The club came up with a round of "Happy Birthday" for Pres. Warren Mitchell.

Pres. Warren Mitchell reports we received a thank-you note from the Laconia High School Lacrosse Boosters for our donation to their ad book.

Win a Classic!
Chair Paul Cotton reports that the motorcycle swap meet, American Legion Post #4, Haverhill, Mass., for Sunday last was a pass for us due to heavy rain. The sign-up sheet went around for our next roadshow at the hot rod show, Meadowbrook, Gilford, Saturday, May 22. 9a-1p: Michael Bastraw, Roger Webster; 11a-2p: Steve Loughlin; 1p-5p: Paul Cotton, Warren Mitchell.

Kiwanis Safety Day
Treas. Chet Cilley advises that we had over 100 kids come through the Bike Rodeo Saturday last. On hand to keep things running were: Chet Cilley, Warren and Janet Mitchell and grandson Ben, Michael Bastraw, Larry Murphy, Steve Loughlin, Paul Normandin, Kathy and Patty Jeanne Calvin, Nancy Williams, Bob Hunt, Roger Webster, and Paul Cotton. Also contributing to the festivities were Laconia Parks and Recreation, Laconia Police and Fire Departments, Klaus' and Piche's Bicycles,
Lakes Region Cyclery, Contigiani's Catering, and Project Main Street. The winner of the raffle bicycle was Michael Smith. (More photos will appear next week.)

Past Pres. Dick Breton had a photograph of Charlie St. Clair's empty booth at a Florida motorcycle show. Pres. John Perrow led a unique presentation to the club on the occasion of the return of their gavel--which Pres. Warren Mitchell did.

Guest Speaker
This writer introduced Chief Kenneth L. Erikson, Laconia Fire Dept., to the club. 24 years in the fire service and 2-1/2 in Laconia, Erikson has tried to guide the department from a reactive one to proactive by pre-profiling city structures and encouraging child car seat's by offering professional installation services. He also cites their partnership with Lakes Region General Hospital in providing Emergency Medical Services with 10 paramedics and 12 intermediates. He also makes a point of adjusting schedules to anticipate peak service times. Chief Erikson made special note of the continued and accelerating increase in city buildings being serviced and consequent increased calls for service. Recent budget cuts have forced the curtailing of staff training and public education. Now they receive 911 calls every 2.3 hours and are unavailable an average of three times each day.
