Don Nelson had a buck for the above.Guest Speaker
Past Pres. Jim Fortier introduced DARE Officer Donald W. Kimtis, Jr., Laconia Police Dept. to the club. 4-1/2 years with the department and on his second year with DARE, Kimtis spends 10 weeks, Tuesday-Friday, in the 5th grades of Elm St., Woodland Heights, Pleasant Sr., Laconia Christian, and Holy Trinity Schools. DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) was founded in Los Angeles in 1983 and now serves 81% of the U.S. and 51 countries around the world. It's goal is to educate children about the dangers of gateway drugs such as tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana and how to deal with unhealthy peer pressure. Off. Kimtis uses a decision-making model based on Define, Assess, Respond, and Evaluate in his lessons. The program is supported by private donations and is looking to expand into the Middle School. For more information, go to laconiapd.org.Off. Don Kimtis shows off one of the program's workbooks...whoops...lesson plans.
