Don't Show Up

Bylaws
Laws and Regulations Chair Phil Bonafide passed out a second draft of our policies and procedures and bylaws incorporating suggested changes that will be reviewed at our next meeting.

Bike Rodeo
Roger Landry received a thank-you note from one of the Safety Day participants. "Dear Kiwanis Club, My friend talked to one of your members and got me a wicked cool helmet. Thank you for making the world a better place by making kids safe as they ride their bikes. I love my helmet. Thank you!! From, Ashley Cote, Laconia."

Opening the Camp
Pres. Larry Murphy reports he and several Key Club members helped open up Camp Mayhew for the summer. It took them three hours and he has a bit of a sore back to show for his hole-digging labors.

Win a Classic!
Chair Paul Cotton advises that we probably will not be on the Weirs Boardwalk Memorial Day weekend due to anticipated bad weather. The next roadshow would then be the Auto Show at Meadowbrook, Saturday, May 30. Thurston's Marine has agreed to let us use their parking lot during Motorcycle Week.

Guest Speaker
Charlie St. Clair introduced Project Director Shirley Glines, Project EXTRA, to the club. Project EXTRA (Enriching, eXtensions To Raise Achievement) is a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant project. It is federally funded through the N.H. Dept. of Education. Other partners in the project include the Laconia School District and Parents and Children Together. EXTRA will be providing extended school day and vacation programming for all five Laconia schools. Students will have the opportunity to enhance their strengths and strengthen areas of weakness in academics, learn life skills, new hobbies and leisure activities, bond with other students and adult mentors, and serve the community. Proposed enrichment clubs include: swim lessons and life guard certification, community service, reading, debate, math, adventure, student radio, college search and scholarship, and archaeology. She started working on the project in the beginning of March and is actively seeking volunteers as mentors and to help with the various programs. Interested members may contact Shirley Glines, 528-0359.
