NISE Money
by W. S. Loughlin
Joe Adrignola, Past President and Director of the Laconia Kiwanis Club, presented Sue Page, Volunteer with the Society of St. Vincent dePaul, with a check to help fund the activities of The Children's Foundation. The money came from monthly donations made by Kiwanis members over the past year. The Children's Foundation strives to foster self esteem in children attending public and religious based schools in the Lakes Region by providing them with financial assistance toward educational and personal needs not funded by school budgets or individual family resources. These educational and personal needs include school supplies, medical care, and personal hygiene care.

Be Our Patron
V.P. Phil Bonafide passed out assignments to specific members to contact past bulletin advertisers to get them to re-up for another year. The ad linked to their own website is $100. If we need to make a custom page up for them, it costs an additional $50. Members are encouraged to pick up a form from Phil and sign up some new sponsors. John Grocki and Dan Fisher have arranged 10MB of server space through MetroCast Cablevision. This is the next step towards simplifying our address to laconiakiwanis.com.

Win a Classic!
Fundraising Chair Phil Bonafide would like members to be on the lookout for someone to underwrite the cost of the next motorcycle raffle's tickets. This will be around $500 and the sponsor would appear on every ticket. The Signage Committee is at work designing the new look for our motorcycle trailer. The trailer will be available for Gilford Old Home Day.

Foreward
John Grocki and Dan Fisher are looking into a possible Kiwanis golf tournament in the fall. In the meantime, MetroCast Cablevision will be sponsoring the 3rd Annual Robbie Mills Memorial Golf Tournament, Monday, September 17, at Laconia Country Club. They expect to raise around $10,000--most of this coming from various sponsorships.

Interclub
Chair Warren Mitchell reports that the trip to Berlin has been pushed back to the middle for end of August.

Happy Birthday to Us
Pres. Don Nelson notes that V.P. Larry Murphy is gearing up for our 75th Anniversary next May.

Installation '01
V.P. Phil Bonafide is planning on having our Installation Dinner on a regular meeting night in September.

Don't Show Up
Pres. Don Nelson advises that we will not be meeting on Monday, September 3 (Labor Day). The club and Boards will meet on Tuesday, September 4.

50/50

Guest Speaker
This writer introduced Program Dir. Julia A. Aste, Ozanam Place. This organization assists single parents who struggle to meet their children's basic needs. Their mission is to empower people with the skills needed to be responsible, self-sufficient individuals and parents. They believe a stable safe place to live is essential for a parent to focus on learning new skills. Ozanam Place provides structure, supervised housing and support programs. They strive to make a single parent's movement off welfare dependency lasting and without harm to children. Through personalized, intensive guidance, they help parents upgrade their educational and job skills to a level that earns a sufficient wage. Access to quality childcare and transportation are key program ingredients. Applicants must be pregnant or a single parent with one or two children; 18 years or older; alcohol and drug free; motivated to work toward long-term goals and to strive towards one's educational, vocational, and personal potential. The biggest impediment to the program is that they have only one case manager who can only monitor 10 families at a time.
