Win a Classic!
Pres. Phil Bonafide reports that we grossed $1675 at the Grass Drags, Laconia Airport last weekend. Thanx to Don Nelson, Phil and Jackie Bonafide, Michael Bastraw, Chet Cilley, Joe Adrignola, Kathy Calvin, and Nancy Williams. The next roadshow is another local venue: Tilton Walmart, November 17. This is a great chance for some a new sales force to give Phil and Don a break--we don't want them to burn out before they make the club gobs of money. Pres. Phil Bonafide has tickets available for all members to sell on their own over the next few months. If you carry 'em, you can sell 'em.Charting the Year

Guest Speaker
This writer introduced Capt. Mark Gallagher, N.H. Marine Control to the club. Formerly with Meredith and Gilford police departments, he has been on the waterways for the last 20 years and full-time since 1986. The patrol, part of the Division of Safety Services, has five full-time officers, four mechanics, two clerics, and have just added three full-timers to cover the N.H. seacoast since the events of 091101. Gallagher urges all boaters to keep a close eye on the condition of their craft and equipment to insure continued safety. The #1 violation they run into is violation of safe passage where boaters maintain higher than headway speed within 150 feet of another object. The Patrol covered 120 boating accidents last season which is actually down from previous totals even though there are now almost 120,000 registered boats in the state. With thousands of bodies of water in the state, over 300 are regularly patrolled. Capt. Gallagher acknowledges the need for "more enforcement presence" but maintains that if they get enough calls come in from a certain area, there will be a response. He has trouble recruiting finding qualified candidates as most of the positions are seasonal, there is a training program that spans 10 weekends, and no one gets rich. But for students on vacation who may want to have something good for their resume, this is a great opportunity. The season starts with ice-out in April and continues through till the water locks up. During the beginning and end of the season, there is much maintenance of spars and buoys. On January 1, 2002 it will be necessary to complete a 6-hour course to operate a powerboat. As time goes on, this age limit will rise.Past Pres. Nancy Williams and Capt. Mark Gallagher, Marine Control
