NEW MEMBER INDUCTION:
Shawn Intorcio was inducted into the Club by President Betty Ballantyne.

John Intorcio, Shawn’s husband and sponsor, provided the Club with historical and background information on our new member.

The following is a transcript of John's introduction:

I take great pride in presenting our newest member, Shawn Duff Intorcio.

Shawn was born on a sweltering August day in Salamanca, New York. Her childhood was spread across Kansas, New Jersey, Croton, NY, and then Cincinnati, OH where she graduated Northwest Senior High School. Her brother, Scott, six years her senior, was fundamental in her development, teasing and torturing her to make her into the strong woman she is today.

She enrolled at the University of Maine at Orono as a Microbiology major but when Organic Chemistry kicked her butt, she hung up her biological aspirations and picked up an abacus. She earned her BA, with honors, in Economics and chose to continue her education at Boston College. There, during the Flutie era, she continued her studies in Economics as a Teaching Assistant. Among her students was lineman Mike Ruth who would come to class after weekend football games battered and bruised. She completed her Master’s and Doctoral degrees concentrating in Econometric and Statistical Modeling, Regulatory Economics, and Monetary Policy.

She began her professional career as a Forecast Analyst at W.R. Grace before finding her niche in the energy industry at Central Maine Power in Augusta. Her next fateful move was to the energy consulting firm Xenergy in Burlington, MA. Advancing to a Senior Project Manager over her four years there, she also crossed paths with a ravishing, remarkably intelligent, poney-tail-adorned, software engineer, who would soon become her husband. But enough about me.

Shawn continued to build her energy consulting and management chops with stints at Tellus Institute, Standard & Poors DRI, IHS Global Insight, and Black & Veatch. Along the way, she raised two sons, each now with successful careers in Architecture and Cyber Security.

She eventually returned to Xenergy, which through several acquisitions was now Norwegian-owned DNV GL, and spent nine years managing their global energy consulting group with offices in Boston and Frankfurt. Tiring of the consulting grind, she completed her professional career as an overpaid rebate processor at the Reading Municipal Light Department.

Retired since 2021, Shawn now spends her time gardening on the shores of Lake Opechee, volunteering through Kiwanis and Laconia Congregational Church, and traveling the country and the world with her still ravishing and intelligent but now bald husband.

I have known Shawn for thirty-four years. We’ve been married for almost thirty-two, and am proud to be her sponsor. By presenting you with this pin, I welcome you into the Kiwanis Club of Laconia.
