From the President:
Meredith opened the meeting by welcoming the Key Club. She then welcomed back John Walker & Muff Kruse, and Honorary Member, Jim Fortier.

Meredith showed the membership a new Kiwanis pamphlet that will be available to all folks attending the Bicycle Rodeo. It includes a tear-off section for us to note an interested party's name and contact information.

Meredith discussed the Bike Rodeo, which will be held at Opechee Park on May 20th from 10 am to 1 pm. She requested that volunteers be there by 9 am for set-up. Bill Gile is handling the food products, Betty Ballantyne is interacting with the city for barriers & cones, and John Walker and Muff Kruse are collaborating on a press release.

From the Members:
Betty Ballantyne reported on her recent health scare involving a brain tumor pressing on the optic nerve in her eye, which affected her peripheral vision. An MRI and blood work determined the tumor likely was benign. She subsequently met with a world-renowned neurosurgeon at Mass General Hospital and, on April 25th, had surgery to remove the tumor. The tumor, which was about the size of a golf ball, was removed through her nasal passage. Betty is now on the mend and feeling great. The Club gave a warm round of applause welcoming her back to good health.

Bill Gile recapped Key Club activities and announced they are adopting two spots for beautification in our area, the Smith Track sign at Opechee, and the flag-pole area at the Laconia Middle School baseball field. Bill also announced that he has begun discussions with the Laconia Middle School Principal, Alison Bryant, about establishing a Builder's Club at the Middle School. A Builder's Club is the Middle School equivalent of the Key Club.

John Walker asked for members to begin looking out for sodas on sale to stock up for Bike Week. He will store the sodas either in his storage unit or Scott Laurent’s trailer at his house. John asks for only 6 types of soda: Coke, Diet Coke, Mountain Dew, Sprite, Pepsi & Diet Pepsi. We are asking local retail outfits to donate water.

Important Notice:
Next month's meeting will be held on Monday June 5th in order to coordinate club activities on the Boardwalk for Motorcycle Week.  Members are requested to volunteer for one or more shifts that are open below.

Motorcycle Week Sign-Up:

Help is needed by the membership for our annual Motorcycle Week fund-raiser on the Laconia Boardwalk. This is always fun and everyone's participation is strongly encouraged. Subject to advance notice, John Walker is willing to drop off and pick up any participant by boat.
