ANNUAL MEETING AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS:
Officers proposed for election for the upcoming fiscal year 10/1/23 thru 9/30/24:
President: Betty Ballantyne
Treasurer: Zach Dea
Past President: Bill Gile
Board Members: Steve Loughlin, Tara Shore, and Brian Winslow


Phil Bonafide and Meredith Michaud are stepping down from the board.
Bob Willey made a motion to accept the officers and directors as presented.
Steve Loughlin seconded the motion.
After a brief discussion, all voted in favor of the motion.

 

BYLAWS CHANGES:
Brian read the changes submitted for the club policy and procedures for the Kiwanis Club’s annual meeting and the annual meeting for the Charities fund.

Kiwanis Club of Laconia, NH Policy & Procedure Amendments
Requires 2/3 vote of active members present at any meeting of this club provided 14-day notice of meeting has been given.

1. Section I. Active Membership: Remove wording that states, “Which standard shall include attendance at no fewer than twelve regular club meetings during an administrative year at any Kiwanis Club is in good standing with Kiwanis International.
2. Section IV. Committees: Remove section and replace with, “ad hoc committees may be appointed by the President from time to time.”
3. Section V. Meetings: Change language to read, “The club shall hold a meeting once monthly on the 3rd Tuesday at 6pm and at such a place as shall be determined by the Board of Directors. The board may cancel, reschedule or move the meeting as needed. It may hold other meetings. as the Board of Directors or membership may desire.
4. Section VI. Revenue: Remove discount language and cost of meal language.

Don Nelson made a first motion to accept Brian’s proposal and Phil Bonafide seconded the motion, after allowing time for discussion all approved members approved the motion.

Laconia Kiwanis Charities Fund Bylaws Amendments
Requires 2/3 vote of members present at any annual meeting or at any special meeting of the members called for such a purpose.

1. Article III Meeting of the Members, Section 1: Edited to read, “The annual meeting for the transaction of such business shall be held to coincide with the annual meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Laconia, NH.”
2. Article IV Officers, Section 1: Edited to read, “The officers shall consist of the president, vice president, treasurer, secretary (who for the purposes of New Hampshire law shall also carry the title of registered agent), of the Kiwanis Club of Laconia, NH.”
3. Article V Duties of Officers, Section 2: Replace references to president-elect with Vice President and remove references to second vice president.
4. Article V Duties of Officers, Section 3: Remove reference to the assistant secretary-treasurer.
5. Article V Duties of Officers, Section 5: Spelling correction (tilled to filled).
6. Article VI Board of Directors, Section 3: Remove reference to telegram and facsimile and replace with email.
7. Article VI Board of Directors, Section 10: Spelling correction (bach to each)

Don Nelson made a first motion to accept Brian’s proposal as read to the members, Phil Bonafide seconded the motion, after allowing time for discussion all members approved the motion.


NEXT CLUB MEETING: Due to our commitment to Bike Week, our general meeting will be cancelled for June. We shall meet in the third week in July to have a barbecue.

BIKE WEEK 2023:

Bike Week will be held this year from Saturday June 10th through Sunday, June 18th. As in the past, we are looking for volunteers to assist the Club at our Hydration Station. Please sign up by "clicking" here.

Bill will reach out to Akwa Marina Yacht Club and North Water Marine (formerly Thurston’s Marine) to see about potential parking for those working during for Bike Week

 

KIWANIS KARES: Kids in the Park will be held in July on Wednesdays or Fridays to read to children from 10:00 am till 11:30 am. Bill and his family have committed to July 5th. We need more participation. Bill is to confirm if we need two days each week or one. Bill will get back to us as soon as he hears back from LHS Key Club Advisor, Jilli Paul.

 

PICKLEBALL FUNDRAISER: The event will likely happen late August to September this year.

LOTTERY TICKET RAFFLE: It is proposed we use Raffle Creator as a means to sell tickets, tally, and generate printed tickets for the Lottery Fundraiser. The fees incurred are less than others available. Betty had sent the link for the Board to review and asked for their opinions. She also noted that she had a conversation with Jennifer Anderson, from the Laconia Rotary, who reported they have used this company for the motorcycle raffle and have been quite happy with them. Betty will send the link to Zach. He had not seen the link and will delve into the product. The tentative date this event will end is June 30th.

GOT LUNCH – LACONIA: Bill explained to our new members the origination of Got Lunch – Laconia. The program was spearheaded by Bill’s wife, Paula, and former Laconia Kiwanis Club President John Walker (who is now an Honorary Member). Currently, the supplier for Got Lunch- Laconia was unable to provide peanut butter to the families. Bill had requested and has collected jars of peanut butter to deliver to the Got Lunch - Laconia organization.

MULTICULTURE FEST: This annual event is scheduled for September 9, 2023. The Laconia Kiwanis Club is expecting to participate in KID’S CORNER. More details will follow.

 

HAPPY DOLLARS: $25 was collected

*Zach Dea for good weather for Bike ‘n’ Board and his overall happiness with the success of the event

*Steve for the great performance of Bike ‘n’ Board AND to congratulate Phil on his leaving the Board

FOOD PANTRY: $54 was collected.

BERMUDA ONBOARD 2022/2023 LEADERSHIP TRAINING: Bill and Bob presented Betty with a pin for participating in their zoom training this past spring.
